Post 2 - Magical Memories

When I began my training, one of the first things we were taught as cast members in merchandise is that our goal is to help guests choose magical memories for themselves. While this sounds very cheesy, it is also a very sweet concept and something I get to enjoy doing every day. Some of my favorites souvenirs, or “magical memories” that we sell are tsum tsums, Alex and Ani bracelets, and Pandora charms.

Tsum Tsums are these plush pillows that originated in Japan, the name is Japanese for “Stack Stack.” They come in sizes ranging from mini to large. The mini ones are my favorite because they are so small and fun to collect.

Alex and Ani has a line of bracelets that are sold exclusively at Disney. I love these bracelets because I think it is a more tasteful and fashionable way to wear your love for Disney. They have ones with Princesses on them, ones with the icons of the park, and ones with good old Minnie and Mickey on them. I have a couple of these bracelets myself and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t planning on buying more.

Pandora has not always been my favorite jewelry, and it still isn’t my style, but I have had the pleasure of getting to sell charms to guests. Just like Alex and Ani, these charms are exclusive to Disney. They do have some princess inspired ones you can buy at any Pandora, but they also have a large selection of charms that you can only buy at the parks. I love selling these because it is so exciting to help a guest pick out a charm that they love and will treasure forever!

Disney is known for making magic and dreams come true. As a cast member that is a tall order to fill, but this company supports their work force and provides us with great opportunities. Through this they encourage us and help us be the best at what we are doing, and that is providing excellent customer service. I think I fit in the company culture because I take pride in my work and really enjoy interacting with guests and helping them so that they leave happy. I am lucky that my specific location, Park Arrivals at Epcot, is extremely friendly and everyone works together well. This helps all of us live up to the Disney name.

The Emporium - one of the biggest stores on property that I worked at this past week

This past week I decided to pick up shifts in all four parks. This means I was working at different locations with completely different people. Many people on the program never pick up shifts anywhere else out of fear of not knowing anything. While this fear was in the back of my mind, it quickly dissipated. Every location was as welcoming and inviting as the next. Each cast member was willing to help me when I asked and understood that this was not my normal location. This is a really cool aspect of working for Disney, getting to work in different places in the same line of work and everywhere you go the other employees are nice. This is key in making this kind of system work because there are so many people picking up shifts in different locations that the welcoming attitude is helpful and helps keep this system running. I am thankful for the friendly attitudes that I have encountered at each location and see it as a great representation of the company.

Note To Know:

Do not be afraid to try new things in the work place, whether it is talking to someone new or working in a new section. 99% of the time it will be rewarding and you will be thankful you took the risk.
